JAMES R. NICHOLSON, CRE, CPM

James R. Nicholson, President, and sole stockholder of J.R. Nicholson & Co., Inc. began the firm in January 1977. Prior to that time he served, as Vice President of Property Management with Percival's Inc., a Charlotte, N.C. management, development, and leasing firm.

He was born in Morristown, Tennessee and moved, with his mother, to Charlotte in 1953 where he attended Myers Park High School, Central Piedmont Community College, and The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He received his CPM in 1976 and was accepted as a member of the American Society of Real Estate Counselors (CRE) in 1989.

Jim is quite active in the real estate community, having served as a Director of BOMA International, locally, regionally and nationally, President of the Southern Conference of BOMA, Secretary/Treasurer of BOMA International, and Chairman of the Board of Equalization and Review for Mecklenburg County (property taxes). He has also chaired the Professional Standards and Commercial Division (CLE) of the Charlotte Board of Realtors. Past activities include; President of the Carolinas CRE's, President of the Institute of Real Estate Management, Western North Carolina Chapter 40, President of the Carolinas Virginias BOMA, Director and Treasurer of the Charlotte Board of Realtors, Chairman and Director of the Commercial Listing Exchange Committee, Director and governor of the North Carolina Association of Realtors, Director and President of the Southern Conference of BOMA, active on many committees on both the Board of Realtors and BOMA International organizations. He also served as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Research Committee and provided real estate research for use and publication for many years.

Other activities have included acting as President-Elect of the Mecklenburg Historical Association, Presidency of the Hugh Torrance House and Store Inc. (a historical property), and Volunteer Coordinator and manager for Joshua's Farm, a therapeutic riding program for children. He also provides real estate counseling in property management and leasing assistance for non-profit organizations.

Over the years, I have provided counseling, brokerage, and management services to: AEGON, Allegiance Brokerage, BankAmerica, Bank of America, Carolinas Medical Center, Chrysler, Crossmark, Deluca, The Federal Bankruptcy Court, First Colony, Furmanite, First Union National Bank, Guetermann, Hydradyne,  Life Investors Realty, Mercy Hospital, NationsBank, NCNB, New York Life Insurance Co., The Rouse Company, S & D Coffee, Wachovia Bank and Trust N.A., Yukiwa, and many others.

Personal hobbies include reading, farming, fly-fishing, boating and travel with his wife Mary.
